USA Update 2026 – America’s Great Disruption. Online-Seminar
Shortly before the midterm elections during Donald Trump’s second term as president, where does the United States stand? This online-seminar examines
- the division and polarization of American politics and society that paved the way for Trump’s election victories in 2016 and 2024
- domestic politics under the Trump administration, including the transformation of the federal government and the crackdown on (not only illegal) immigration
- foreign policy in Trump’s second term including the outright rejection of the liberal, rules-based international order that the US built after World War 2 and the decline of the transatlantic alliance
- positions and chances of the Democratic and Republican parties for the midterm elections as well as possible consequences
As usual, satirical cartoons and videos will provide comic relief on these often dark and serious issues.
Dr. Markus Hünemörder is an adjunct lecturer for American History at the University of Munich.
After Dr. Hünemörder’s presentation, there will be room for questions, an exchange of ideas how to implement the issues addressed by Dr. Hünemörder in the classroom.
