Introduced in July 2005, this JR East near-urban bi-mode electric train replaced the 403 and 415 series, developed based on the E231 and E501 systems. It serves on the Tsukuba and Joban lines, and since the March 2015 timetable revision, it also runs on the Ueno-Tokyo Line, with some trains extending to Shimbashi. The train consists of a basic 10-car and an additional 5-car formation, with each set comprising a leading and a middle car. The leading car can be configured as either a KuHa E530 or E531 (with or without a toilet), while the middle car can be a MoHa E531 (with pantograph), MoHa E530, or SaHa E531 (both without pantograph). It comes with a new SG frame and included stickers.
